The Animal Shelter facility is dedicated to helping adoptable animals find permanent homes. The Animal Shelter is operated by Delta County Citizens for Animal Welfare and Shelter (CAWS). The Animal Shelter is located within the City of Delta City Shop area at the West end of 4th Street. 874-1078

Where do I get pet Licenses? At City Hall located at 360 Main Street.

Shelter hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday thru Wednesday

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday thru Saturday

What Do I Do If I Lost My Pet?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you have lost a pet even if you don't live in the City of Delta. If we do have your pet, we will set a time for you to come and get it. The holding period for impounded animals is 5 business days. After that, the animal can be placed for adoption if adoptable. Please contact the following agencies to report a missing pet:

Please be certain that your dogs are wearing current identification tags on their collars at all times and that your cats have been licensed and the tags are available for inspection!

How Many Pets May I Have?
You are allowed to have 4 pet animals in any combination of dogs and cats per city address.
When Does My Pet Need To Be Vaccinated For Rabies?
All cats and dogs 6 months of age and older must be vaccinated for rabies by a licensed veterinarian. If you have a pet that is not vaccinated for rabies, you have 5 business days from the date of acquisition to have the vaccination completed. Rabies vaccinations must be kept current at all times. Your veterinarian can advise you of a vaccination schedule.
Does My Cat or Dog Have To Be Licensed With The City?
Yes, all cats and dogs 6 months old and older must be licensed with the City. A rabies vaccination tag is NOT a City license. To purchase a City license, please bring your pet's current rabies certificate to the Delta City Hall to license your pet. However, cat tags do not need to be on the cat, the owner must produce the tag if requested by an officer.
I Need Help With Spaying My Pet, Who Does This?
You can contact CAWS at 970-874-1078 or 970-527-3350 and/or the Delta County Humane Society at 970-874-2149 for assistance.
Who Do I Call If I Suspect An Animal Is Being Abused Or Neglected?
Please contact your local law enforcement agency if you feel an animal is being mistreated. If you live inside the City limits, please call us at 970-874-7903. If you live outside the City limits of Delta, contact the Delta Sheriff's Office at 970-874-2015.
When Can My Dog Be Off A Leash?

All dogs are required to be on a leash and in control by means of a leash whenever it is off of the owners property within the City limits of the City of Delta. Dogs may be off leash at the Dog Park located in Confluence Park, if they are inside the fence.
